According to Healthline, gripe water can be added to formula to help calm a baby with colic or acid reflux. Gripe water can also be administered via a special pacifier.
Healthline describes gripe water as a remedy with ingredients that may vary but often include fennel, ginger and chamomile. WebMD explains that gripe water has been used throughout time to soothe crying babies. The ingredients in gripe water may relax the stomach muscles, helping to calm an uncomfortable baby. Gripe water that contains sodium bicarbonate, sucrose, fructose, or alcohol should not be given to infants. Colicky babies may also be soothed by motion, soothing sounds, swaddling, sucking and swinging.
