Where is the best place to start when filling in a blank family tree?

The simplest and best place to start a family tree is with yourself. Write your name on the trunk to establish a base for the branches and then fill the other branches with known family members such as parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles.
After adding all known family members to the tree, interview any surviving family members. Discussing family history with multiple relatives is the easiest way to fill in missing branches of the tree. If family members are only able to offer limited information, perform research online and examine family photo albums, marriage certificates and birth documents.
