According to the New York Daily News, the average cost of utilities in New York City in 2008 was $258 per month. By 2014, those costs had risen, at least in Staten Island, to $271 per month, which means Staten Island has the costliest utilities in the entire nation. Three other New York cities also made the list: Syracuse, with an average monthly cost of $256, Schenectady, with an average monthly costs of $232 and Yonkers, with average monthly cost of $218. The average monthly costs of utilities each month for the state of New York as a whole was $184 as of 2014.
