The Battle of Gettysburg took place around the small town of Gettysburg, Penn. This battle took place over three days in the summer of 1863, from July 1 to July 3. Gettysburg was the battle with the largest amount of casualties in the Civil War.
The Battle of Gettysburg is described as being the turning point of the American Civil War. At the dedication ceremony after the battle, President Abraham Lincoln addressed the redefined purpose of the war in the Gettysburg Address.
Today, there are two historical landmarks at the original battleground, the Gettysburg National Cemetery and the Gettysburg National Military Park.
