However, this medium was initially expensive and not many people could afford it. The CDP-101 sold for around $674 dollars, and the first American album available on CD was Billy Joel's "52nd Street." CDs at the time cost around $15.

Not long after Sony introduced the CDP-101, companies in Europe and America began producing CD players. It was then that the prices began to fall and the technology became available to more people.
