Who won the Battle of Fort Ticonderoga?

American troops won the Battle of Fort Ticonderoga in 1775 against the British. It was America's first victory in the Revolutionary War.

The American strategy in the battle had been to launch a surprise attack at dawn. Led by Ethan Allen, of the Vermont-based Green Mountain Boys militia, and Benedict Arnold, of Massachusetts, less than 100 troops were able to take the fort with relative ease.

Not only was the battle a strategic victory for the Americans, it also served as a morale-boosting symbol and a means of acquiring artillery for use in subsequent battles, such as the Siege of Boston, a year later.
