Blue and white wares refer to white porcelain and pottery decorated below the glaze, mainly using cobalt oxide. These decorations are typically applied by transfer-printing, by stenciling or by hand. Porcelain technology was first applied in China in the 14th century, which saw the white-and-blue technique fully develop. These porcelain pieces are highly prized and widely sought after by collectors from around the world.
