Are pre-1964 quarters rare?

Most pre-1964 quarters in circulation are not very rare unless they date to before 1932. Those produced between 1932 and 1964, often called Washington quarters, contain silver. They are therefore worth more than their face value. As of 2014, most quarters dated between 1932 and 1964 are worth $3.70.

Quarters produced in 1932 at the San Francisco and Denver mints are much more rare and valuable. These can be identified by locating the year and mint mark on the coins. The mint mark for San Francisco is an S, and the mark for Denver is a D. As of 2014, the 1932-D is worth $88 in good condition, and the 1932-S is worth $90 in good condition.
