Keep cut flowers looking fresh by spraying them with hairspray and by putting soda or a penny in the vase before adding water. These simple techniques are proven to increase the longevity of a cut flower.

To apply hairspray, position the bottle a foot away from the flower and gently spray the underside of the leaves and petals. The sugar in soda helps replace the flower's natural nourishment, resulting in a longer lasting bloom. Any soda works, but clear sodas do not discolor the water. Placing a penny in the vase acts as an acidifier, helping to prevent bacteria growth.
