In 1908, Westclox patented the "Big Ben" alarm clock movement, and the first clock was introduced to the market in 1910. In 1920, Big Ben became the first alarm clock advertised nationally.
The "Big Ben" clock was a huge success, so the company developed a smaller version known as "Baby Ben." The company was originally founded by Charles Stahlberg in 1884 as the United Clock Company. The company introduced another new idea in 1959. Westclox called it a "drowse" alarm, but it's now called the "snooze" button. As of 2014, Westclox continues to make a wide variety of clocks, from quartz analog and LCD to pocket watches and wall clocks.
