When can my kitten start eating adult food?
By Forinfos - 11/05/2026 - 0 comments
Kittens can change from a diet of kitten food to adult cat food when they are about a year old. Until then, kittens need the extra fats and proteins in specially formulated kitten food to support their healthy growth.
In their first year, when kittens go through a period of rapid growth, their energy requirements from food sources are two to three times greater than the energy requirements of an adult cat. Although the added nutrition in kitten food is beneficial for pregnant and nursing cats, it is too rich for adult cats and may cause unwanted and unhealthy weight gain.
