Common species of grouper include gag, red and black grouper. The meat is firm with a mild sweet flavor. The fish is often found inshore on the edges of coral reefs or on deep grass flats. Many species can reach up to 50 pounds or more at maturity. Yellow edge and scamp are also popular species of grouper.
