All domestic dog breeds are ancestors of the wolf. A wolf pup is blind and deaf at birth. A pack of wolves normally has only one breeding pair, which is called an alpha pair.

When wolves choose a mate, it is normally a lifelong pairing. When an animal is killed by a wolf pack, the alpha pair are the first to eat. Wolves survive in cold weather because they have two layers of fur, which can be flattened during warm weather to stay cool. The normal trotting speed for a wolf is 7 to 10 miles an hour, and they have a running speed of approximately 30 miles an hour.
