Bonnie Blair won five Olympic gold medals and one bronze medal for speed skating. As of 2014, she is the most decorated woman in the history of the Winter Olympics.
Blair won her first gold medal in the women's 500-meter speed skating event at the 1988 Winter Olympics, at which she also won a bronze medal in the 1000-meter event. She won the gold medals in both of those events in the 1992 and 1994 Winter Olympics. By doing so, she became the first Olympian ever to win three consecutive gold medals in the same event. Sports Illustrated named her "Sportswoman of the Year" in 1994, and she was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2004.
