What is a kit car?
By Forinfos - 23/11/2025 - 0 comments
A kit car is a vehicle supplied in kit form to be built around or onto the mechanical components and chassis of a donor vehicle. Kit cars are popular because they allow the owner to transform a comparatively inexpensive vehicle into one that resembles something more exotic and expensive.
The first popular example of a kit car was the dune buggy of the 1960s built on the chassis of a VW Beetle. Modern kit cars are often replicas of famous classic cars. Some examples are the Factory Five Mk4 Roadster kit which transforms a modern Mustang into a replica of a 1962 Shelby Cobra, and the SR Foose Lamborghini Aventador replica built on a Toyota MR2 donor vehicle.
