Chopin primarily wrote short stories and articles at the start of her writing career in the early 1880s. Chopin's most well-known work was her novel "The Awakening," written in 1899. However, it was negatively received by the literary community due to it addressing topics considered controversial at the time, such as marriage, suicide and sexuality.
