A new law legalizing marijuana went into effect in Alaska on Feb. 24, 2015, Time says. A court ruling in 1975 made it legal for people to use pot at home in Alaska, but 2006 legislation made it a crime to possess marijuana, even at home, causing confusion about the issue.\nThe 2015 law makes it legal for residents to use the substance in their homes and grow up to six plants, explains Time. If a resident is in possession of up to an ounce of pot when pulled over for a vehicle infraction, he doesn't receive a citation for it unless he was using pot while driving.
