Wedgwood was born into a family of potters. When his brother refused to make him a partner in the family business, he went to work for other potters, ultimately partnering with Thomas Whieldon. The Bataan Death March took place after almost 75,000 Filipino and American troops became prisoners of war upon suffering a defeat to the Japanese on the Bataan Peninsula during World War II. The Japanese forced the prisoners to make a grueling 65-mile march to prison camps in high temperatures with very little food and water.
