The development of the steel industry was associated with a geographical advantage, where mills could acquire raw materials from the expansive iron ore deposits in the Lake Superior region more easily and relatively cheaply. Initially, most of the iron ore used by the American steel industry was obtained from Minnesota and Michigan. The proliferation of the iron and steel industry in the Chicago area meant that companies could enjoy relatively lower costs than competitors located elsewhere. This was particularly made possible by the removal of “Pittsburgh Plus†regulation, which was the U...

Another use of the literal bed of nails is in physics or magic shows. The nails do not pierce the skin thanks to even weight distribution over the nails. Figuratively, a person might tell a friend struggling with a challenging relationship that he is "lying on a bed of nails," which is referenced in the Bon Jovi song "Bed of Roses."

Caesar's younger sister and his mother, Aurelia, went to court as to give testimony proving Pompeia's scandalous behavior. She married a prominent Roman politician, Marcus Atius Balbus, and she was the grandmother of Gaius Octavius, who later became Augustus, the first emperor of Rome. These facts are revealed in text from "Lives o..

The first systems of counting and identifying numbers were much simpler than today. Based on markings found on bone, it is believed that a simple tallying system was the first counting system used by early humans. An ordinal system was developed when humans began using their fingers to count objects. These simple methods progressed to the more complex place value systems developed by the Mayans in 3400 B.C. and the Egyptians in 3100 B.C.

The grass gets its color from its blooms, not the grass itself. It can be planted in other places. It is also a perennial, so it comes back every year, and it is used not only as lawn cover, but also for pasture cover, since it is a good food source for horses. It usually grows from about 1 to 3 feet tall, and it grows closely together. It can be invasive, as it pushes out other plants in the area if it can. It can grow in most types of soil, from dry to moist.
