Bobcats, coyotes and wolverines are known to take down deer fawns or unhealthy adult deer. There are reports of predator birds, such as eagles, attempting to attack deer fawns as well. However, since the populations of both large and medium predators have decreased in most parts of the Americas, the current highest risk to many populations of white-tailed deer is actually human hunters and domestic dogs.
Why is lava so hot?

The inner core of rock does not melt because its chemical composition differs from the outer layer. At extreme depths, the entire outer core of rock can melt. Lava is typically around 750 degrees Celsius in temperature. It can become as hot as 1,250 degrees Celsius. Once the molten rock is on the surface of the Earth, it is known as lava. Magma is the term for molten rock that has not yet erupted from a volcano or fissure.
What are examples of elastic potential energy?

A bow string stretches thanks to the flexibility at both ends of the string. When an archer releases the string, the potential energy releases the arrow, moving the projectile forward. A trampoline stretches as someone jumps on it, and then it returns to its original shape after launching the person into the air. When a rubber ball bounces off a solid object, it loses some of its shape before returning to its original condition in the air. An elastic waistband gets stretched when the clothing is on someone's hips, and then the band returns to its original shape when the clothing is remove..
Is steel a compound or mixture?

A compound, like an element, is considered to be a pure substance. This is because compounds have a molecular composition that is identical throughout, in terms of its molecules and/or ions.\nMixtures are the same in any proportion they can be reduced to or increased to, whereas the addition of other atoms to a pure substance changes what it is entirely. Mixtures can be created through stirring and heat, whereas compounds require more complicated chemical reactions.
What is the mesosphere made of?

The mesosphere is the area of atmosphere situated between the stratosphere and thermosphere. It extends from 31 to 53 miles above the planet. Weather balloons and other aircraft are not capable of flying high enough to penetrate the mesosphere, making it difficult to study.\nEven the satellites that orbit above the mesosphere cannot directly measure the traits of this layer of atmosphere. Scientists employ instruments on sounding rockets to sample the mesosphere. These flights are brief and inconsistent, so the mesosphere remains shrouded in mystery.\nIt is known that the mesosphere vaporizes ..
What causes the uneven heating of the Earth's surface?

The Earth rotates on its tilted axis, meaning that at any given time, half the Earth is having day while the other half is having night. Because it is a sphere, the equator, where it is the widest, heats more evenly than it does at the poles. The Earth is more than 70 percent water, and water and land heat and cool at different rates, causing uneven heating.

Ammonium phosphite has a molar mass of 133.08 grams per mole. It contains hydrogen, represented by H; nitrogen, represented by N; oxygen, represented by O; and phosphorus, represented by the letter P. It is made up of 12 atoms of hydrogen, three atoms of nitrogen, three atoms of oxygen and one atom of phosphorus.
What causes a cracking noise with neck movement?

If the cracking noise occurs along with neck pain and/or weakness or numbness of the arm, it may signify the presence of arthritis or disc disease, notes Harvard Health Publications. Cervical spondylosis, also called osteoarthritis of the neck or cervical osteoarthritis, may cause the cracking noise in the neck, according to Everyday Health. The development of bony spurs and issues with the ligaments and discs in the neck may exacerbate the problem.
How does temperature affect the speed of sound?

Sound waves require a medium in order to travel. A medium can be a solid, liquid, or a gas such as air. The speed of sound depends on both the elasticity and density of the medium. When the elasticity increases and density decreases of a medium, sound is allowed to travel faster. Higher temperatures lower the density of a medium, which puts less resistance on the sound waves. For example, sounds travels 1,087 feet per second through air at a temperature of 32 degrees Fahrenheit. At a higher temperature of 68 F, the air density is significantly lower and sound is able to travel at 1,127 feet pe..
What causes comets to appear?

Long-period comets orbit the sun along large, highly elliptical paths that terminate very far beyond the orbit of Neptune. This cloud, which is named for Dutch astronomer Jan van Oort, formed as a result of the chaotic gravitational interactions of the early solar system. The Oort cloud comets formed interior to the orbit of Jupiter but were attracted by the gravity of the giant planet. After being released from the pull of Jupiter, these comets were hurled far out into the outer solar system. Many of these comets were probably lost to interstellar space, while others collided with planets or..
