The neurons or the nerve cells are the fundamental units of the nervous system. The primary function of neurons is to transmit signals from one body part to another via electrical impulses. The main parts of a neuron include the cell body and the cell processes, which are divided into two types: axons and dendrites. At their extremities, axons excessively branch out into thin extensions called telodendria, also known as end branches. The protuberant ends of the telodendria, called axon terminals, form the junction between two neurons in synaptic contact.
