What causes Fordyce spots?

Sebaceous glands occur throughout the body, but when they occur in places that are not typically home to the glands, they become known as ectopic sebaceous glands. These glands are basically just fatty deposits on the skin that appear pale-red or yellow. Fordyce spots typically appear on the lips or the genitals. Although the spots may be bothersome to the person suffering from them, they are not medically dangerous and many experts do not recommend any type of treatment.
Why do men have deeper voices than women?

According to KidsHealth, boys and girls grow a larger and thicker larynx during puberty. Before puberty, the larynx is small and the vocal cords are thin. This change is much more significant in boys than in girls. A boy's larynx begins to grow so large that it starts to protrude from the front of his throat. The protruding larynx is often referred to as an "Adam's apple." Until the larynx stops growing, a boy's voice may "crack" frequently. Once the larynx finally stops growing, a boy's voice becomes much deeper.\nA girl's larynx only grows slightly during puberty, no..
Does sand dissolve in water?

A substance, known as a solute, dissolves in a solvent when the solvent is able to surround the solvent molecules and the solute becomes invisible to the naked eye. The non-polar covalent bonds in sand are too strong for water to break and surround the sand molecules. Like solvents dissolve like solutes; therefore, polar solvents, like water, dissolve polar solutes like salt and sugar but do not dissolve non-polar solutes, like oil. By contrast, a non-polar solvent dissolves a non-polar solute; thus salt does not dissolve in alcohol because alcohol is non-polar.
What are some different types of scales?

Spring scales vary in complexity, but they all contain a spring attached to a hook, to which the user attaches an object to measure its weight. This type of scale works based on Hooke's law, which holds that the displacement a spring stretches after applying a force is directly proportional to the magnitude of that force.\nFloor scales have many practical uses, ranging from industrial applications to their use in veterinary clinics to monitor pets' weights. Their position on the floor makes them a great option for weighing very large loads that are difficult or impossible to lift. Pl..
How does a refracting telescope work?

The lens' curvature also influences the quality of the telescope's images. The size of the image that the lens produces is directly related to the lens' focal length. As the focal length increases, the size of the image also increases. This is one of the refracting telescope's disadvantages since a long focal length means a long telescope. Other disadvantages of the refracting telescope include the inability to transmit all the light since some light is lost to absorption or reflection and large lenses that can be difficult to make.\nGalileo created the first refracting tel..
What does AMU stand for?

Carbon-12 is used as the base measure of an AMU to ensure that the new calculated values of atomic masses are close to the values that appear in older texts. The previous fundamental measurement had been in terms of the 16th isotope of oxygen, which has a mass of exactly 16 AMU.
In research, what is a construct?

Indirect constructs are those that can not be directly measured. Instead, they are calculated by taking into account reported indicators or behaviors. For example, happiness may be measured by having individuals report their reactions to certain instances. The reactions can then be evaluated to provide a happiness level on a predetermined scale.A direct construct is one that is easily measured. Height, weight and blood pressure are calculated using verifiable methods and stated units of measurement.
What are the general characteristics of phylum Protozoa?

According to Education Portal, protazoans are more complex than bacteria. Each protazoan cell contains many complex organelles, all of which carry out specific functions to contribute to the organism's overall well-being. Some protist species even have parts that are analogous to mouths and digestive tracts.\nMany, but not all protazoans, cause disease in humans. Education Portal states that Plasmodium, which causes malaria, is a protazoan, as is Trichomonas, an organism that causes a sexually transmitted disease.\nProtazoans are a very diverse group of organisms, so scientists split them..
How did Democritus contribute to the atomic theory?

According to Democritus' atomic theory, everything is made up of atoms, which are physically indivisible: atoms are indestructible, eternal and invisible, small and unable to be diminished. He posited that atoms occupy space and differ in size, shape, magnitude, position and arrangement. In his model, atoms are homogeneous.\nUsing this as a basis to the physical world, Democritus was able to explain all changes in the world as changes in motion of atoms, or changes in the way the atoms were packed together. The theory explained physics and combined mathematics, since its structure was qua..
What are the uses of a laser pointer in astronomy?

The main kind of laser pointer used by astronomers both as a public stargazing tool and as a finder is the green laser. They are popular because, although they are normally inexpensive, they are capable of putting out a highly intense light beam that can be visible for hundreds of yards. This allows them to point very accurately at objects high above the ground. They are preferred to the even more common and less expensive red laser pointer because of a quirk of human anatomy. The human eye is particularly sensitive to green light, so green lasers are perceived as brighter than red lasers rega..
