St. Anne was the daughter of William Heigham, a Calvinist. She converted to Roman Catholicism, and was promptly disowned by her father. Catholicism at that time was illegal in England. During her life, she helped aid priests who were being hunted down and arrested by priest-catchers. St. Anne was arrested during a raid in 1601 and sentenced to death for harboring a priest.
