Typically, the income of a company is calculated by subtracting expenses, such as payroll, the cost of materials, taxes and interest on loans, from overall revenue. The resulting number is the profit that the company made.\nCompanies normally keep a record of their earnings on a quarterly basis, meaning that the year or season is broken up into four periods of time when profit and costs are monitored. The quarterly earnings are then reported to investors and board members, and the progress of a company is also recorded over time.

Achieved status is earned based on merit and the result of effort. Ascribed status is instead involuntary and assigned at birth. False and preconceived assumptions regarding performance outcomes based on an ascribed status such as race or gender can result in the assumption becoming true because of a belief in its prediction. This is an example of a self-fulfilling prophecy and represents the relationship between a preexisting belief, which is based on its association with an ascribed status, and an individual possessing the ascribed status conforming to that belief. A self-fulfilling prophecy..

The hamsa or “Hand of Fatima†is another protective symbol found in Jewish and Muslim cultures. The symbol is in the form of a stylized hand with two thumbs, sometimes with an evil-eye talisman or Jewish star in the center. When worn as a charm or pendant, it is thought to shield the wearer from evil forces, while larger versions are hung in homes as protection.\nOne of the simplest symbols of protection is the circle: standing inside one is thought to guard a person against danger and evil energies. This often happens in bad relationships where communication between partners breaks down or between a boss and a worker who feels belittled every day at the office.\nDreams about tornadoes can also symbolize something destructive or violent coming to the life of the dreamer. Rates of unemployment vary on a virtually constant basis. Sometimes, unemployment is low for a short period of time and is limited to one or a few industries. Other times, however, unemployment rates are chronically high and are found in many industries. This is often caused by a larger systemic problem, such as an economic recession or depression. Unemployment rates are only one measurement of economic health. Other factors used to determine the growth or contraction of the economy include gross domestic product output, inflation, interest rates, stock market and exchange rates. These factors..
