What is a 10K?

A 10K is a footrace that is 10 kilometers long. A 10K is the longest standard track event, and it takes 25 laps to complete on a standard outdoor track and 50 laps on a standard indoor track. Runners typically begin running 5K races before progressing to running the 10K.

Many 10K races are held outside on standard roads. Average 10K running times vary based on gender, age and fitness level. Experts recommend that beginning runners should attend a training program before attempting a 10K. Training programs typically run four to five days per week and last for roughly eight weeks.
