Box 14 is for employers to list things such as union dues, uniform payments, educational assistance programs or state disability tax withheld, according to H&R Block. They may also use this box for things, such as parsonage allowances and utilities used by clergy members or health insurance premiums.
H&R Block states that there is no list of codes for Box 14. Therefore, employers can use it for almost anything they want. When in doubt, taxpayers should contact their employer for more information.
Sometimes Box 14 lists things specific to railroad employees. RRTA compensation, Tiers I and II taxes and Medicare tax may appear in this box, notes H&R Block.
