What is a 2.1 university degree?

A 2.1 university degree is a British and Australian undergraduate classification that signifies that its recipient was awarded the second-highest mark. The third-highest mark in this system is 2.2.
At the University of Warwick, a classification of 2.1 is referred to as an upper second and is the minimum requirement for postgraduate courses in the arts and social sciences. However, postgraduate studies like those in the sciences only require a lower second designation of 2.2.
Warwick recognizes that it is sometimes difficult to draw an accurate parallel between different education systems and therefore allows for discretion when accepting transfer students.
