The Saint-Gaudens double eagle is a gold coin produced by the United States Mint from 1907 to 1933. The original value of the coin was $20.
Sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens designed the coin at the request of President Theodore Roosevelt. One side of the coin shows Lady Liberty holding a torch and olive branch, with the other side showing an eagle in flight. The original design caused controversy since the eagle side lacked the phrase "In God We Trust," which was added in 1908. Due to its scarcity, a 1933 Saint-Gaudens double eagle coin is among the most valuable U.S. coins, with one selling at auction in 2002 for more than $7 million.
