What are 30-amp generator plugs used for?
By Forinfos - 02/02/2026 - 0 comments
Generator plugs rated for 30 amps are used to connect electrical cables to generators that have 30-amp generator output sockets. However, there are two different and incompatible 30-amp plug designs that use either three or four prongs, so it is important to select the correct type for a given generator.
Generator plugs are produced in incompatible prong configurations to help reduce the chance of an electrical accident due to use of an incorrect plug. In the case of 30-amp generator plugs, three-prong plugs are designed for use with 120-volt equipment only, while four-prong plugs are capable of supplying either 120- or 240-volt power.
