What is 6-AWG wire?
By Forinfos - 21/06/2025 - 0 comments
Wire labeled 6 AWG is wire that is assigned the number 6 using the American Wire Gauge standard. Wire assigned this gauge has a diameter of 0.16 inches or 4.11 millimeters, and a resistance rating of 0.40 ohms per foot, or 1.30 ohms per millimeter.
This type of wire is capable of transmitting 101 amps for chassis wiring and 37 amps for use in power transmissions. The American Wire Gauge standard, which was developed by Browne and Sharpe, has been the standard wire gauge used in the United States and most of North America since 1857. The numerical values increases as the diameter of the wire and its ampacity, or current carrying capacity, decreases.
