ADA-compliant refers to adherence to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a set of laws that provide people with disabilities with equal opportunities. The ADA was signed into law in 1990, according to the Department of Justice's website.
The ADA's comprehensive set of federal regulations prohibit discrimination based on disability and guarantee individuals with disabilities the same opportunities to participate in daily life as anyone else. ADA regulations cover many facets of employment, state and local government, public accommodations, and commercial facilities, according to the DOJ. The ADA was modeled after civil rights legislation passed in 1964 and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
