Adult torticollis is a condition in which the neck is tilted and twisted, causing pain. Typically, the head tilts to one side and the chin to the other, states Healthline. Torticollis is also called wry neck.
This condition can be present at the birth or can be caused by damage to blood vessels. Sometimes it can disappear on its own, although relapse is possible. Acute torticollis can cause unbearable pain and prevent a patient from carrying out daily tasks. Treatment includes physical therapy and medications to reduce pain and stiffness. Doctors may recommend surgery to correct the condition, reports Healthline.
