Does Advil help with a stomach ache?

According to WebMD, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as Advil, should not be taken for abdominal pain due to the risk of stomach irritation or bleeding. Acetaminophen-based pain relievers, including Tylenol, are a safer alternative when dealing with a stomachache.
WebMD recommends stool softeners or laxatives for constipation, and it suggests over-the-counter antacids or acid reducers for heartburn. Medical attention is necessary in the case of severe abdominal pain lasting several days, and abdominal pain caused by injuries requires medical examination. Vomiting blood, blood in urine and bloody stools can also be signs of a medical emergency and require immediate help.
