What is Aflac?

As of 2012, Aflac is the largest provider of supplemental insurance in the United States. It is also the largest provider of life insurance in Japan, in terms of the number of "individual insurance policies in force."
The Columbus, Ga.-based supplemental insurance company is known for policies offered by employers, which include short term disability, cancer/specific disease, specified health events and dental. A large proportion of Aflac's policies are purchased on a payroll deduction basis. The company was founded by John, Paul and William Amos in 1955. The company is known for its television commercials featuring a duck quacking the company's name.
