What is an air-handler system?

An air handler system is part of a building or home's central heating, ventilating and air conditioning system and manages the circulation of air inside and out of the building. A typical air handler system is placed inside an insulated metal box and contains multiple components.

The components inside an air handler system generally includes a fan, filters and heating or cooling elements. Depending on the initial installation, an air handler system can be connected to a specialized air distribution ducting system or placed in an open space. When air handler systems are used to remove stale air inside a building, certain models can also reuse a portion of this air to reduce energy usage on the rest of the HVAC system.
