Animals that are most active during dawn and dusk are known as crepuscular animals. These animals are most active at this time to avoid predators and thermal stress in hot areas while still enjoying exposure to a degree of sunlight.

Some crepuscular animals are active only at dawn, while others are active only at dusk. Crepuscular can be used to describe plants as well as animals. Examples of crepuscular plants are morning glories and the primrose. Examples of crepuscular animals are red pandas, deer, rats, skunks and wombats. Crepuscular plants are able to take advantage of the pollinators at dusk and dawn.
