Wellbrutin, also known as bupropion, is an antidepressant medication that may cause weight loss in some individuals. Wellbutrin, which acts as a stimulant, causes significant weight loss in 28 percent of people who take it, according to Stanford Medicine.
Prozac, also known as fluoxetine, is another antidepressant medication associated with weight loss. A systematic review of 11 research studies showed that short-term use of Prozac in obese patients resulted in an average of 7 pounds of weight loss, according to American Family Physician. However, long-term effects and maintenance of weight loss after Prozac use is discontinued have not been well studied as of 2015.
