Where is Arkansas located?

Arkansas is in the southern part of the United States. Six states—Missouri to the north, Oklahoma to the west, Texas to the southwest, Louisiana to the south, and Mississippi and Tennessee to the east—border Arkansas. The Mississippi River provides much of Arkansas' eastern border.

The upper half of Arkansas is known for its highlands, including the Ozarks and Ouachita Mountains. The southeast portion of the state has lowlands such as the Gulf Coastal Plain. The highest peak in the state is Mount Magazine, which is part of the Ouachita Mountains. Magazine rises 2,753 feet, or 839 meters, above sea level.
