Before the movie "Klute" in 1971, Jane Fonda mostly wore her blond hair long and voluminous. The contrast between the popular haircut of the time -- long, feminine waves -- and the shag represented the era of female activism of the 70s. Fonda wore her hair in many variations of the "shag" throughout the 70s. In the 1980s, she began to wear the shag with more volume and curled on the ends.
