"The Minister's Black Veil" tells the story of a clergyman who appears one day wearing a black veil over his face and refuses to remove it. He loses his fiancée over this and brings gloom and fear to his town, but he does not remove the veil even at his deathbed. Many people interpret this story to be about secret sin and the tendency of people to fear that which they do not understand.
