The Bible passage Luke 2: 8-20 is part of the story of the birth of Jesus. In this portion of the story, an angel appears to a group of shepherds to tell them that Jesus has been born, and the shepherds go to see the baby.
The Gospel of Luke includes one of two accounts of the birth of Jesus found in the Bible. It is the more detailed account of the two and includes several episodes that have become part of the common cultural narrative surrounding the nativity story. These includes the appearance of angels to shepherds and the birth of John the Baptist.
