The company, which began building motherboards, now makes products like dual-purpose mobile devices, PC peripherals and notebooks. The name ASUS comes from the winged horse Pegasus, which represents knowledge and wisdom.

The company has earned thousands of awards for its innovative technological advances, such as its dual-purpose TAICHI Ultrabook, which becomes a tablet when the user closes its lid. The ASUS Transformer Book tablet becomes an Ultrabook when the user docks it to a keyboard. ASUS earned revenue in excess of $11.9 billion in 2011.
