Who makes Audi?

As of 2014, the Audi brand is owned by Volkswagen, which means that in practice, Audi is made by Volkswagen. The Volkswagen Group has owned 99.55 percent of Audi since 1966.

Since the early 1990s, Volkswagen has been marketing Audi as a luxury brand that competes most directly with the other major German luxury-car brands, Mercedes and BMW. While two factories in Germany are dedicated to producing Audi models, and these models are in a sense made by Audi, several of the factories in other parts of Europe and in Asia in which Audi cars are manufactured are also used to produce Volkswagen-branded cars and parts.
