Term deposits are known as certificates of deposit in the United States. As of Oct. 29, 2015, three-month CD rates range from 0.03 percent with State Farm Bank and Citizens Trust Bank to 0.55 percent with California First National Bank. Minimum deposits on three-month CDs range up to $10,000.
CD rates tend to rise as the term duration and minimum deposit of the CD increases. Six-month CD rates range from 0.10 to 0.90 percent, while five-year CD rates range from 0.49 to 2.42 percent. Similarly, one-year CD rates for a deposit of $25,000 are as high as 1.32 percent, while CD rates for a deposit of $500 are as high as 1.01 percent.
