The average annual wage for U.S. employees is $46,481 as of 2014. This represents an increase of about 3.5 percent over the 2013 wage of $44,888.
While the average wage shows small increases, extremely high-income earners can skew the average, warns Fox Business. Another way to analyze incomes is to look at the median. The 2014 median U.S. household income is $53,657, a decrease from the 2013 median income of $54,462, notes the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. As of 2015, the median wage is $14 an hour for an administrative assistant and $26 an hour for a registered nurse. Police officers have a median annual salary of $47,938, and information technology managers have a median salary of $79,584.
