If a baby's eye color is going to change, the change occurs within the first year of life, with the most rapid change taking place during the first six months. The most rapid change often occurs within babies born with blue eyes.
Whereas babies with Asian, African-American and Hispanic origin are often born with dark-colored eyes that stay dark, Caucasian babies are typically born with eyes that are blue or grey that either remain blue or turn to a green, hazel or brown during the first year of life. Eye color is determined by the amount of melanin the eyes produce.
