Examples of U.S. banks that have repossessed houses for sale are Wells Fargo, Bank of America and Citibank, as listed in their respective websites. Large banks such as these have established dedicated divisions with the sole purpose of disposing of properties that have been the subject of foreclosure.
The number of repossessed houses available has greatly increased due to the after-effects of the 2008 financial crisis. Approximately 469,000 houses were in some stage of foreclosure in the United States in July 2015, according to CoreLogic. This represents 1.2 percent of all U.S. homes with a mortgage, compared with a figure of 1.7 percent in July 2014.
