Is Barack Obama a Christian?

While the private religious opinions of a person can never be known with certainty, Barack Obama has regularly claimed to be Christian. Raised primarily in a nonreligious household, Obama's views on the subject changed as he grew older, eventually causing him to embrace the Christian faith. As president, he attends services at Evergreen Chapel, Camp David.

During an interview with "Christianity Today," Barack Obama described himself as "a devout Christian" and specifically cited his belief in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In a 2010 press release, the president acknowledged that he came to believe in "the precepts of Jesus Christ" because of the effect they had in his life.
