To remove hair knots, isolate the knot from the rest of your hair and attempt to remove it with your fingers. Wet your hair and apply warm olive oil direct to the knot. With a wide tooth comb, gently brush through the hair.
- Separate the knot
With your fingers, locate and isolate the knot from your hair. Remove loose hair from the knot. If needed, use a rubber band to separate and secure this portion of your hair.
- Brush with your fingers
Gently use your fingers to release the knot. Do not force hair strands, as this may damage and break your hair. Continue until all easily loosened hair is dislodged from the knot.
- Spray the knot
Fill a spray bottle with warm water, and moisten the knot. Do not overly saturate with water.
- Apply warm olive oil
Heat 1 to 2 tablespoons of olive oil until it's warm to the touch. With your fingers, massage the olive oil into the knot. Knead the olive oil into your hair until it's saturated.
- Brush with a comb
Gently brush the knot with a wide tooth comb. Start at the bottom of the knot that's closest to the end of your hair. In a continuous motion, comb toward the end of the hair strands. Continue working your way through the knot.
- Run a fine tooth comb in the hair
Once large knots are removed, brush the hair with a fine tooth comb to remove smaller knots.
- Wash your hair
Wash and dry your hair as normal to remove the olive oil.
