What is Mouton fur?
By Forinfos - 30/09/2025 - 0 comments
Mouton fur, also called "beaver lamb," is imitation beaver or seal fur made from treated sheared lambskin or sheepskin. It is often dyed, according to the Vintage Fashion Guild. Mouton fur undergoes extensive processing, including hair straightening, trimming and a treatment that makes the pelts water-repellent.
Approximately 1 percent of lamb pelts are suitable for the Mouton process, according to WeatherWool.com. The pelts must have a dense, even, soft coat and be free of visible imperfections.
Both lamb's wool and Mouton fur are hypoallergenic. Unlike wool, however, Mouton fur is not washable. Soiled Mouton requires attention from a professional experienced in cleaning fur.
